Joseph Mayhew is a ceramic and bonsai artist who spent over 35 years in the hospitality industry as a restaurant and bakery owner, food stylist, consultant and as a Corporate Executive Chef. “My culinary career was shortened due to a medical condition,” he said. “I needed an outlet for my creative spirit, so I turned to bonsai and ceramic arts.”

He’s primarily focused on marrying his love for ceramics and horticulture. His specialty is creating planters, vases, bonsai pottery and ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arrangement, with formal display according to strict rules.

“My artwork encompasses several different techniques including microcrystalline glazes, horsehair and raku,” said Joe. “I find pottery to be very satisfying and therapeutic. As we say in the clay world, ‘you center the clay, and the clay centers you’.”
