Although Sandy Jones says it’s hard to pinpoint what inspires a passion for creating, she believes it started with her grandparents. “My grandparents owned a large, working greenhouse,” she explained.  “As a child, I followed grandpa around while he cultivated his colorful flowers, and I sat at Grandma’s workbench with her while her fingers flew putting together arrangements and corsages.  I think that’s where my love of color and putting colors together might have started.”

Sandy spent her career in the beauty industry, developing products, packaging and make-up palettes enabling her to continue her love affair with color.  She was also responsible for spotting trends in the industry. It was one afternoon, while she was wandering around New York City, that she walked into a wholesale importer’s showroom for precious and semi-precious stones that sparked her interest in jewelry making.

“I fell completely in love with the color and sparkle, but I didn’t have the time to do anything but experiment with stones,” she said. “Upon retirement, I was finally able to indulge. Using those beautiful precious and semi-precious stones, and freshwater pearls I discovered to make jewelry I refer to as “boho chic”.  It turns out that my wire work and knotting is not so different than my Grandma’s artistry at her workbench.  It’s been an adventure to be a working artist and I love every minute!”
