October 2024 3-D Featured Artist KoriAnn Evans

KoriAnn Evans has been associated with Harbour View Gallery since 2020 when she had her first show in the Cape. She immediately attracted friends and customers who drop by the gallery frequently to see her newest creations. This summer, her cards were featured at the Cape Coral Public Library where her work attracted interest from the local area and as far away as Hawaii.

Many of you are familiar with Origami which is the Japanese style of folding paper. Evans uses the Japanese style of cutting paper, which is Kirigami. She started scrapbooking over 35 years ago and began adding pop-up elements to her kid's scrapbooks. She slowly started making individual cards for birthdays and special events. With technology including computer design and laser cutting, she has made over 600 different cards.

She designs each card on the computer in ICAD, a software program and then takes the file to a high-end architectural firm, where they are laser cut. As a scrapbooker, she would cut different colored paper and then put them together. Now most of her cards are laser printed, allowing for vibrant colors to be featured. The last step is to hand assemble each card.

“The design part takes a while to figure out, the pop-up element needs to fit within the size of the card and some of the cards require multiple colors of paper,” explained KoriAnn. “Overall, it's an enjoyable hobby that I turned into a business which I thoroughly enjoy. When you need something for a special occasion, think of my cards. They are something you and your friends will cherish!”
