October 2019 2D Featured Artist Kay Foote
Kay Foote feels blessed to have had many talented art teachers who gave her encouragement over the years. "It was because of one of my early teachers that my eyes were opened to the extravagance of color that surrounds me every day," said Kay. "She encouraged me to look for the variety of hues and shades in nature, pointing out that even a blade of grass contains many color variations. I haven't stopped marveling at the beauty that I've observed since that day. It is because of that statement that I've been inspired to paint watercolors depicting the colorful world surrounding me. My desire is to paint pictures that uplift people's spirits and bring joy to their lives."
Kay was born in Iola, KS and grew up in Davenport, IA, where her grade school teacher fostered her interest in art. She received several art awards during that period and continued to take as many art courses as possible including her years at Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS. After marrying, she took private art lessons in a variety of mediums while living in Lynchburg, VA, Bluefield, WV and Mount Pleasant, PA, until family and work responsibilities took most of her time. She eagerly returned to her art after retiring from managing and marketing retirement communities.
Kay was fortunate to belong to the Cape Coral Art League for several years before moving to Tennessee, where she’s lived for the past seven years. She was privileged to take workshops and lessons from many nationally-known watercolorists through that association. It was in Tullahoma, TN, though, that she began exhibiting and selling her art. She has had seven solo shows at The Celtic Cup Coffee House and two at the Tullahoma Art Center and participated in group shows at the art center, the Artisan Depot in Cowan, TN and the Cape Coral Art League. Until her recent move back to southwest Florida, she had her work on display and sold at the Tullahoma Art Center, the Unique Boutique and the Downtown Avenues in Tullahoma.
