November 2026 3-D Featured Artist Allen Kamrad

Al Kamrad, a Chicago native who retired to Florida in 2000 after a successful career as a tool and die machinist with General Motors, has spent a lifetime turning imagination into art. Today, he lives in Cape Coral with Jan, his wife of 66 years, where he continues to create intricate, one-of-a-kind miniature works that captivate viewers of all ages.
A meticulous craftsman, Al's artistic journey began in childhood, with scale modeling. Later, he furthered his creative talents by studying at the Art Institute of Chicago. After serving in the US Army, he began scale modeling, creating highly detailed replicas of military vehicles, ships, battlefield scenes, and historical dioramas.
Over the decades, his artistry has been honored – Al’s detailed U-505 submarine diorama was displayed at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry alongside the actual submarine. He was commissioned by Pepsi to create 1,500 biplane models constructed from soda cans. And his award-winning 1/700-scale model of the USS Hancock aircraft carrier, with over 50 aircraft and hundreds of hand-crafted figures, was showcased in Fine Scale Modeler magazine. He is well-known in the competitive modeling circuit throughout Florida earning numerous awards.
What began as a hobby is a lifelong passion. His creations were shared primarily through model competitions and exhibitions. Today, his collection includes enchanting holiday displays, beach cottages, magical forests, fantasy-inspired scenes, and miniature worlds filled with charm and storytelling.
What sets Al’s work apart is its extraordinary attention to detail. Every fabric pattern, flower arrangement, light fixture, and decorative element is thoughtfully crafted and precisely placed. Vintage jewelry becomes elegant chandeliers, tiny electrical systems create warm illumination, and hidden wiring enhances the realism and magic of each scene.
Each of Al Kamrad's creations reflects not only exceptional skill and craftsmanship, but also a lifetime of creativity, dedication, and joy. Through his miniature worlds, he invites others to pause, look closely, and experience the wonder that can be found in the smallest of details.
