May 2021 2-D Featured Artist Danell Lytell

Danell Lytell moved to Southwest Florida from Ohio while in high school. Her parents, who were snowbirds and owned a condo on Sanibel Island, decided to make Florida their year-round home in 1992.

Drawing and painting have always been important in Dannell’s life. She considers her art as a journey. She’s an exhibiting member of the Naples Art Association, and her art can also be found in various Fine Art Shows throughout the winter season.”

She started oil painting in 1998 after reading an instructional booklet. Soon people began to commission her to create oil paintings and murals for their homes. One that she is especially proud of can be found in a Baptistry in Bonita Springs. Another special commissioned piece was requested by a fine arts professor in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Although she believes that an artist should not feel limited to a certain style or medium, currently Danell specializes in oil paintings of whimsical fish characters displaying bright colors. Scuba diving in Key West over the past ten years has influenced her work. Other subjects that appear in many of her paintings are birds, landscapes, lighthouses, and dogs.
