March 2024 2-D Featured Artist Kim Carioto
Kim Carioto-Krugle received her Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her Master’s in Humanities with a Fine Arts concentration from Arcadia University. Her art teaching career spanned 36 years and included all grade levels from pre-school to high school. During those years, she also had the opportunity to be the technical stage director for plays and musicals and facilitate art clubs, summer arts programs and school art exhibits. “I felt fortunate to also have the opportunity to create several wall sized paper murals for schools and churches over the years as well,” she said.
Kim moved to Florida upon retirement and joined the Cape Coral Art League. She has exhibited her work at Lee County Library and her work is displayed at the monthly League gallery shows, the COCO Gallery in Estero, the annual Cape Coral Festival of Arts and the Sidell Cancer Center.
Most of her artwork is created in oil or paper. The paper collages are a combination of cut and torn paper. “I was influenced by my mother who is a quilter,” she said. “Watching her manipulate color and printed fabric has inspired me to use quilting practices with paper.”
