February 2023 3-D Featured Artist Shirley Hales
Primarily known for her fine art paintings, Shirley Hales also creates elegant hand painted functional glass and whimsical oyster shell ornaments. She is proficient in several art mediums and recently discovered the challenge of watercolor painting on black paper.
She began her professional art career in 2001 in the Washington, DC area of northern Virginia before moving to Cape Coral in 2006 with her husband David. She is the founder of Harbour View Gallery at Cape Harbour. Her art is also shown at the COCO Gallery in Estero, Florida and at the Artists’ Gallery in Chestertown, Maryland. She is membership chair of the Working Artists Forum in Easton, Maryland and a member of Chestertown River Arts. Her paintings have won numerous awards of excellence and are featured in commission work for local and international businesses.
In 2010, Shirley was honored with the nomination for the Southwest Florida Angels of the Arts, Arts Organization Leader of the Year Award for creating Harbour View Gallery and spearheading the first annual 2010 “Paint the Cape” plein air competition and exhibition. She was one of seven Cape Coral artists selected for the 2013 Alliance of the Arts Annual Art Studio Tour. Shirley is a three-time juried participant in the prestigious Plein Air Easton Local Color
exhibition in Easton, Maryland. She teaches watercolor at the Alliance for the Arts, Fort Myers, FL and Women of Watercolor, Naples, FL.
