December 2022 3-D Featured Artist Nancy Koucky
Art and Design has been a facet of Nancy Koucky’s life since elementary school when she was encouraged to take Arts and Crafts classes in the summers. As she grew older, she made her love of art an extracurricular activity while studying Art History at the College of Wooster in Ohio where she received her BA in 1976. In 1977, at the encouragement of her soon-to-be husband, Chuck, she began a full-time career in art as a weaver, weaving items for the home and
women’s fashions. However, when she and Chuck opened their art galleries in Naples and Charlevoix, Michigan, she focused her attention to running the two galleries. During the evenings, she would take various classes in stained glass, jewelry making, and batik to name a few. In 2001 Nancy and Chuck made the decision to close their galleries and move to
Pine Island year around. It was at this time; she began her new career and passion in
Graphic Arts as an animator. This grew and evolved over the years, and she became the Art Director for an international magazine from which she retired in 2019. Nancy continues to free-lance designing books, magazines, ads and marketing collateral for independent authors and small businesses.
In 2019, Chuck surprised her with a gift of a wood lathe. She enjoys turning small projects in wood and resins. The tactile qualities of turned and sanded woods enchant her as do the depth and color of the cast resins. She finds creating in the woodshop a delightful respite from her computer. She takes workshops whenever she can and is in the shop as often as possible.
