December 2020 3D Featured Artist Diana Urso
Diana Urso creates one-of-a-kind wearable art shawls fashioned on a unique upright triangle loom. Although her loom is adjustable, typically each shawl is six feet across at the widest point, not including the fringe. Each piece usually takes six to 38 hours to complete, depending on the fiber choice and size. She generally uses natural fibers such as wool, cotton, silk or linen, although synthetic materials like fun fur and sparkle have been incorporated to create diversity and interest. Each shawl is made with multiple continuous strands and both warp and weft are worked simultaneously.
As an educator, Urso has presented many triangle loom lectures throughout the years. With a background in geriatrics, she has also taught silk painting classes in senior communities and to other small groups.
Urso, who currently lives in Southwest Florida, graduated with a B.A Liberal Arts, Fine Art and Graphics Major at Saint Xavier College in Chicago and earned her M.B.A. in Personnel Administration at George Williams College. Her wearable designs can be found in many prestigious boutiques and various art centers across the country.
