Kathy has always known she was an artist at heart, and has always pursued that
dream. After earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts, she began designing original batik
clothing and spent many years successfully in that world.

When she began looking around for “next,” stained glass seemed to be a logical step.
She sees the two as similar in design - while batik has white negative space, stained
glass utilizes black or dark lines to separate color. Kathy’s favorite part of the process is
choosing the right glass for the right space – both color and texture are important in her
work.

Stained glass as art is becoming increasingly difficult to find. It is a difficult, time-
consuming and expensive process. It requires the perfect balance of artistic and
technical skills. There are so many steps to achieving a finished piece, and patience
and precision is critical. Despite all this, Kathy considers stained glass to be her life-
long love and passion.
