April 2026 2-D Featured Artist Dr. Jane Ruprecht

Dr. Jane Ruprecht has had a love affair with photography since middle school when she learned to develop black and white film, to compose pictures – not just take a shot, and about the importance of light.  Her study of color intensified when “slides” became the next big thing in photography.  She became a professional photographer in 2008.

Her favorite subjects to shoot are birds and wildlife here in Florida.

Taking time to be still and observe her subjects to conduct themselves normally while quietly watching and taking pictures of them in their natural habitat is the most rewarding. People appreciate seeing spoonbills as they are nesting, eating and carrying on with each other. Dr. Jane also strives to get clear reflections in the water when possible, which enhances the emotion and the depth of the photograph.  As a Master Naturalist, Jane finds that these photos open the door to conversations about the birds and the disappearing habitat, allowing a greater understanding to more people.

As a career educator, Dr. Jane delights in teaching young students (and their parents!) about the importance of maintaining natural habitats and environmental issues that deeply affect our Florida communities.
