April 2023 2-D Featured Artist Carmen Sprague

Fine art photographer Carmen Sprague, originally from Lansing, Michigan is a transplant to the state of Florida. She worked as editor and chief photographer for General Motors “Warehouse Views” and the “Communicator” while residing in Michigan. “It was truly a rewarding experience to win 1st place in the under 5000 distribution, for layout ad content,” she said. 

Carmen owned and operated “Exposures,” a Photography Studio in Lansing for 18 years. While there, she received a Degree in Applied Science in Photography and Graphics from Lansing Community College’s Media Institute and Michigan State University. In 1989 she won the Kinsa - Kodak Award in the black and white portraiture division. “From 1990 through 1996 my work was honored to be chosen for ‘Photographer’s Forum Magazine’ and featured in their ‘Best of Photography Annual’, published in Asia and distributed to college libraries, photography and art instructors and graphic artists for instruction.

After a cancer diagnosis in 1996, she felt it was time to live the “American Dream”, be an artist relocated to the Florida Keys in 1999. “Since that epiphany, I became a member of the Florida Keys Art Guild, Lower Keys Artist Network, The Cape Coral Art League and the Cape Coral Garden Club. I also owned and operated ‘Carmen’s Gallery’ in Key West for eight years and was Co-Owner of ‘Artists in Paradise’, Big Pine Key.” she said. 

She is President of the Cape Coral Art League, as well as Office Manager, Board Member and a 

Teacher of Digital Photography Classes. “I am truly blessed to be able to indulge in my art and enjoy the state of perpetual sun,” Sprague concluded Her work can be found at the Cape Coral Art League and Etsy/CarmensGallery.
