April 2022 3D Featured Artist Heather Rivera

A Jersey girl who transplanted to Dallas, then Cleveland and now lives in Cape Coral, Heather Rivera has been creating with her hands for as long as she can remember. From obsessively making macramé string bracelets at nine and later crocheting afghans, she now says she is madly wire-wrapping shells and gemstones in her often-quirky way. “There is something meditative and therapeutic about taking what seems like a million disjointed pieces and unifying them into a single cohesive piece,” said Heather. “I can sit in the same spot for hours, blissfully focused on whatever my hands are working on. I have been making and selling jewelry part time since 2011.”

Now that she resides in Florida, Heather especially enjoys incorporating shells in her work. She specializes in cold fusion jewelry and calls herself a wire wrapping purist; not using glue, heat, soldering, fabrication or smithing of any kind. “One of the things I love most about wire wrapped jewelry is that it is not mass producible. The fundamental nature of wire wrapping is created using hands and hand tools,” she said.
