July Featured Visiting Artists

Opening Exhibition Reception - Tuesday, July 6th, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Joan Roberts.............................Oil/Acrylic

As a Cape Coral artist, prior Chicago artist, Joan's paintings create the emotion of romantic, graceful images. The brush strokes are soft; with velvety edges that add a peaceful, soothing ambiance with an impressionistic style.

Joan attended the Art Institute of Chicago and has studied art in Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, and Wisconsin. She is a member of Cape Coral Art League, Bonita Art League and Alliance of Ft. Myers.

A past web designer and CEO of First Impression Presentations, a company that created graphic presentations for inventors, Joan received outstanding reviews from her customers for the creativity and presentation design.

Joan recently participated in two of Bonita's Juried Art Exhibitions, Bonita, FL and the Alliance's All Florida Juried Exhibition, Ft. Myers, FL. Her artwork is exhibited in business offices and prestigious homes in many states including Chicago and in Naples, FL.

Each painting is extraordinarily unique and would be an outstanding focal point for any room and a good investment for the future.

Beverly Spana..................Glassware

Beverly Spana is pretty close to being a native Floridian having moved here with her family when she was eleven and growing up on the beaches of Sarasota County. Twelve years ago she became interested in glassware and has created an inventory that includes painted glassware, fused glass, as well as other hand painted items such as furniture and floor cloths.

When Beverly creates a new piece her first rule of thumb comes from something she read which has stuck with her in both her artistic endeavors and her life in general..."If you're going to do something impulsive, don't over-think it."

She is self taught and has discovered that she has a "good eye for color". She finds much of her inspiration comes from other artists with whom she is associated.

June Featured Visiting Artists

Opening Exhibition Reception - Tuesday, June 8th, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Harbour View Gallery welcomes Tony Williams, wood sculptor and the team of Uschi Lanier, acrylic painter and Diane Clarke, writer, as the gallery’s June 2010 featured visiting artists.

Lanier and Clarke combine their artistic talents to produce "Paint and Prose," uniquely pairing acrylic works of art and accompanying prose.

                              Uschi Lanier                                                  Acrylic

After receiving a Bachelors and Masters Degree in education, teaching school in Germany offered Uschi plenty of opportunity to be creative and at the same time to encourage her students to let their own creativity flow.

Aside from teaching, taking care of her family, participating in sports, and playing in a Mardi Gras type music group Uschi always enjoyed experimenting with various art media, but mostly did pencil and charcoal drawings. In 2003 Uschi and her husband David moved to Cape Coral, Florida. Feeling inspired by the tropical colors and the light she switched her focus to acrylic painting.

She is currently a member of the Cape Coral Art League and the Pine Island Art Association in Matlacha, Florida. In February 2007 her painting entitled "Green-Eyed Mystery Lady" won 1st prize in the category acrylic during the PIAA’s Annual Art Show. Uschi also serves on the board of the PIAA as vice president.

Diane Clarke, Writer

Diane began writing as a child, growing up as the youngest in the family, on a farm in rural Illinois. "Since my parents, as well as my siblings, were older when I came along, I had a unique opportunity to be on my own a lot; I developed a deep appreciation for my beautiful surroundings – rolling pastures, streams, woods, and animals. The one thing I didn’t have was a lot of people to communicate with, so as soon as I was old enough, I put my thoughts on paper."

Diane’s appreciation for nature has been nurtured in SWFL for the past 9 years, where she lives with her husband, waiting for the next shelling, boating, or hiking adventure with one or more of their 5 kids or 7 grandkids.

Diane has written for political and PR campaigns, Christian publications, and pleasure for 40+ years. "This partnership of "Paint & Prose" with my friend, artist Uschi Lanier, has been developing over the past 3-4 years, and it’s very exciting to see people connecting with the unique combination of our work." The two friends are looking forward to publishing a book of their combined work in the near future.

          Ritta Thrall, Jewelry

Ritta will continue here for the month of June.

                 Riitta Thrall                                      Jewelry

Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Riitta Thrall now makes her home here in Southwest Florida. Over the past 7 years, she has focused her creative energy on making jewelry.

After a trip to Sedona, Arizona she decided to use natural gems, stones, pearls and shells to create jewelry with a purpose. The designs she creates focus on the thought of mind, body and spirit.

Gemstones have been used for thousands of years to adorn and heal the body while lifting the spirit with natural energy. "I love to spend hours at a time putting the different elements together to create something beautiful".

FIRST ANNUAL PAINT THE CAPE AT CAPE HARBOUR

Paint the Cape is a multi-day "en plein air" artistic competition and art exhibition benefiting the Cape Coral Community Foundation, a 501(c)3, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the public well-being and improving the quality of life in the greater Cape Coral community.

The week-long event began on Sunday, January 3, 2010 with artists' registration followed by several days of "en plein air" painting at designated areas of the Cape. Twenty-six artists braved an unprecedented chilly week of weather with high spirits and smiles that warmed the air around them.  The awards ceremony and preview reception held at the beautiful Cape Harbour pavilion on Friday evening, January 8th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. was attended by 150 people.  The crowd was rewarded with outstanding artwork produced by the plein air artists that week, entertainment by Island Frank and a lively raffle and auction.  All proceeds from the evening sales supported the Cape Coral Community Foundation and the artists whose work was purchased.

Competition judge, Val Sandell, a well-known accomplished plein air artist from Sarasota, Florida presented the awards to the winning artists.  First Place winner was Tara Grim for Palms of Cape Harbour, Second Place winner was Jeannette Chupack for Sunrise on Coral Canal, with Peter Zell taking Third Place for The Barber of Del Prado.  The artists' work remained at the Pavilion for sale throughout the weekend at the Pavilion.  For a complete list of winners go to the Plein Air artists page of www.paintthecape.com

Wine Styles hosted a premium wine tasting on Saturday, January 9th and Sunday the 10th from noon-3:00 p.m. at the Pavilion.  Nine hardy artists participated in the "Quick Draw" paint out on Saturday, January 9 from noon-3:00 p.m. at Cape Harbour.  The work was exhibited with the plein work at the Pavilion.
